Every hundred years, the evil sorceress Mormo rises again, and every hundred years, a new hero of legend takes up the Sword of Ditto to stop her. Whether this cycle ends in victory or defeat, the world moves on regardless, pushing forward another century until it’s someone else’s turn to pick up the blade.
The Swords of Ditto: Mormo’s Curse is a roguelite action RPG from developer onebitbeyond and publisher Devolver Digital. Exploring a charming but dangerous overworld, braving menacing dungeons, and growing stronger in a village between adventures, each new hero faces their own unique version of the fight against Mormo, whether tackling it alone or alongside a friend in local co-op.
What Makes It Different?
- Take on a unique version of the adventure with every new hero of legend
- Explore an overworld and dungeons that shift with each cycle of play
- Wield unconventional weapons, including a vinyl record frisbee and a magic golf club
- Collect and equip stickers to boost your hero and enhance their gear
- Tackle dungeons and side missions in whatever order suits your approach
- Play solo or team up with a friend in local co-op
- Carry forward the legacy of past heroes, including their weapons and loot
A New Legend Every Hundred Years
Rather than following one continuous hero, Mormo’s Curse frames each playthrough as its own legend, distinct from the ones that came before it yet still tied to a larger heroic lineage. The deeds, successes, and failures of a previous hero can carry weight into the next cycle, sometimes even letting you recover weapons and loot left behind by fallen adventurers from history. Whether a run ends in triumph or defeat, the world simply moves forward another hundred years, ready for its next hero.
An Arsenal Built for Mayhem
Traditional swords and bows sit alongside considerably stranger tools in Mormo’s arsenal of enemies to face down, including a vinyl record frisbee, a magic golf club, and a colossal foot descending from the heavens. Stickers collected along the way add perks and boosts to your gear, letting you shape your hero into something powerful enough to banish Mormo for good. With dungeons, dark caverns, and deep wells all open to tackle in whatever order you choose, or the option to march straight at Mormo for the ultimate challenge, every playthrough can be approached however you like.
How Long Does a Run Take?
A single standard run in The Swords of Ditto: Mormo’s Curse typically takes about 5 to 7 hours, covering exploration of the island, levelling up, clearing the required dungeons, and facing the final boss. How long a run actually takes depends heavily on the difficulty setting chosen, which determines the in game time limit available to prepare for the final showdown.
Easy, or Casual, mode gives 7 days to explore and prepare, Medium, or Regular, mode gives 5 days, and Hard mode limits preparation to just 3 days before the final battle is forced.
As the game features roguelite elements, failing or completing a run resets the world and items, pushing the story forward 100 years to begin a new cycle with a new Sword of Ditto. Reaching the true ending and permanently lifting Mormo’s curse requires multiple successful runs, adding up to 30 or more hours of total playtime to see everything the game has to offer.
Controller Support
The Swords of Ditto: Mormo’s Curse features Full Controller Support for Xbox Controllers. Support for other devices is not known.
Good If You Like…
There’s a strong overlap here with bit Dungeon, Debugging Hero, Sephiria, and Dungreed, four games that share The Swords of Ditto’s love of top down, Zelda inspired dungeon crawling with an ever changing structure.
