Debugging Hero
Chosen by the Legendary Sword, you’ve gained a power no ordinary hero has ever wielded, the ability to manipulate character variables themselves. Between you and the Demon Lord stand dungeons full of monsters, and with the right numbers rewritten at the right moment, none of them stand much of a chance.
Debugging Hero is a top down action roguelite from developer Team ETTU. Wielding variable manipulation cards built from operators and numerical values, you’ll rewrite attack power, health, speed, and more in real time, turning ordinary combat into a puzzle of stats and strategy as you cut your way through dungeon after dungeon toward the Demon Lord himself.
What Makes It Different?
- Manipulate character variables directly using operator based cards
- Use Addition Cards to boost your own stats or recover lost health
- Use Subtraction Cards to weaken enemies or chip away at their health
- Use Multiplication Cards to dramatically swing critical stats in your favour
- Set a monster’s HP to zero for an instant kill, or flip its hostility to gain an ally
- Turn traps against enemies by reducing their delay and boosting their power
- Combine unique item effects to build strategies that suit your playstyle
Numbers Are Your Weapon
Combat in Debugging Hero isn’t just about landing hits, it’s about rewriting the fight before it happens. Variable manipulation cards let you reach directly into the numbers behind attack power, health, and other stats, whether that means boosting your own damage output with an Addition Card, dragging down an enemy’s defences with a Subtraction Card, or using a Multiplication Card to turn a single critical hit into something devastating. Creative use of these cards opens up options well beyond simple stat boosts too, from reducing incoming projectile damage to zero to shortening a trap’s delay just enough to turn it against the monster that triggered it.
Rewrite the Rules of Every Encounter
Some of the most dramatic swings come from targeting enemies directly. Setting a monster’s HP to zero delivers an instant kill, while altering its hostility can turn a dangerous foe into an ally fighting by your side. Rare items push this even further, letting you drastically increase your own movement speed, bring a boss’s speed down to zero, or add entirely new stats like stun damage into the mix. Combining these effects across a run means every dungeon can be approached with a different toolkit in hand.
How Long Does a Run Take?
A typical run in Debugging Hero lasts about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your pace and how much you pause to strategize or explore. The game centers around pausing time during combat to directly edit and manipulate enemy or character variables, like stats and speed, and because setting up these strategic debug combos requires a bit of planning, most players take around an hour to complete a full run from start to finish.

Good If You Like…
Fans searching for something in the same vein as bit Dungeon, Sephiria, Dungreed, and The Swords of Ditto: Mormo’s Curse should feel right at home here too. Debugging Hero pairs that same top down, hack and slash dungeon crawling with a stat manipulation system that gives every fight its own puzzle to crack.
