A massive Rogue Star has formed from the cosmos, and it’s on a direct collision course with everything. Leaders from planets across the galaxy have assembled a team of fighters to stop it, and stopping it means blasting through 10+ planets, rescuing stranded teammates, and defending against waves of enemies with whatever traps can be scavenged along the way.

Rogue Star Rescue is a bullet hell roguelite shooter from developer Chute Apps that blends twin-stick combat with genuine tower defense strategy. Choosing a hero from an elite team, gathering traps and resources across each planet, and defending against mini-bosses and their minions at the end of every level, you’ll build toward one of dozens of possible endings for the galaxy.

What Makes It Different?

  • Choose your own non-linear path across 10+ planets, each shaping the story
  • Combine bullet hell shooting with genuine tower defense strategy
  • Gather and place traps that slow, block, push, spike, burn, freeze, or shoot enemies
  • Rescue stranded teammates who then fight alongside you for the rest of the run
  • Level up permanently, improving strength, speed, health, traps, and luck
  • Choose from Wimpy, Normal, or Insane difficulty modes
  • Play online co-op with up to 4 players, or local couch co-op for 2

Traps Turn the Tide

Every planet in Rogue Star Rescue ends the same way: a mini-boss and a wave of minions waiting at the finish line. Getting there means gathering traps and resources along the way, and strategically placing them before that fight begins is often the difference between a clean defense and total chaos. With traps that slow, block, push, spike, burn, freeze, and shoot enemies, and the option to upgrade them for even more punch, managing that inventory intelligently becomes essential the deeper into the galaxy a run goes.

A Galaxy Shaped by Your Choices

Rather than following one fixed story, Rogue Star Rescue hands real control over to the player when it comes to which planets get visited and in what order. Decisions made along the way ripple outward into dozens of different possible outcomes for the Rogue Star itself, whether that means destroying the galaxy, reflecting it back at the enemy, or sending it hurtling through a wormhole. Rescuing teammates along the way adds another layer, since who joins the fight can shift what’s possible by the end.

How Long Does a Run Take?

An individual run typically takes about 30 to 60 minutes to complete from start to finish. Because the game combines twin-stick shooting with tower defense elements, session length depends on how thoroughly a planet is explored, playstyle, and survival time. A successful or near-successful full run lasts around 45 to 60 minutes, though dying in the early stages naturally cuts that much shorter. Beating the full campaign takes over 100 successful runs, and fully completing the main story averages about 10 hours according to player data.

Controller Support

Rogue Star Rescue features Full Controller Support for Xbox Controllers. Support for other devices is not known.

Good If You Like…

If you enjoyed Enter the Gungeon, Downwell, or Super House of Dead Ninjas, Rogue Star Rescue’s mix of bullet hell shooting and tower defense strategy should be well worth a look.
