No Captain Allowed! is a cooperative action roguelike where up to four players take control of a heavily armed vehicle and work together to survive a constantly changing journey through a bizarre world. Instead of following a single leader, every important decision is made through a group vote. Your crew chooses which path to follow, which upgrades to buy, which quests to accept, and even whether it’s worth surrendering when things start going wrong.
Each run takes place across a procedurally generated map filled with randomized enemies, quests, events, and a different final boss. As you defeat invaders and complete objectives, you’ll collect new weapons, shields, and auras while earning experience to unlock skills. Characters can specialize as Support, Fighter, Runner, or mix abilities from multiple paths, allowing every player to shape their own role within the team.

Every Decision Is a Team Decision
The biggest twist in No Captain Allowed! isn’t the combat or the randomized world. It’s the fact that nobody gets to call the shots alone. Every major choice is settled through a vote, whether that’s selecting the next destination, spending resources on upgrades, accepting a quest, or deciding if the crew should cut its losses.
That system changes the pace of each run, especially with a full group. Success depends as much on communication as it does on shooting enemies, since one player’s preferred route may be completely different from everyone else’s.
Protect the Vehicle While Fighting Back
Rather than sending players off on separate adventures, the entire crew shares responsibility for keeping a single vehicle moving through increasingly dangerous territory. Enemies attack while quests unfold, forcing everyone to balance offense, defense, and resource management at the same time.
Completing objectives rewards better equipment, while defeated enemies can drop new weapons, shields, and auras that improve the team’s chances of surviving whatever randomized challenge appears next. World events such as Ice Storms and the Green Moon can also change how enemies behave, keeping encounters unpredictable from one run to another.
Build the Role That Fits Your Team
Characters aren’t locked into a single combat style. As experience is earned throughout a run, skill points can be invested however you choose, allowing players to focus on supporting teammates, dealing damage, moving quickly around the battlefield, or combining abilities from multiple specializations.
That flexibility makes it easier for groups to adapt their strategy depending on who they’re playing with. A team can spread responsibilities across different roles or experiment with entirely different combinations on the next randomized journey.
How Long Does a Run Take?
There is currently no official or widely tracked average run length for No Captain Allowed!. Because of its relatively small player base, reliable community timing data hasn’t been established. Run duration can vary depending on your group size, chosen difficulty, and how far your crew survives before the expedition comes to an end.
Controller Support
No Captain Allowed! offers full controller support for Xbox controllers. Support for other controller types has not been officially confirmed.
