Something has gone wrong aboard the station, and its once vibrant halls are unraveling into cosmic chaos. Descending deeper means facing enemies that used to be human, and the further down you go, the less human anything left down there seems to be.
Katanaut is a fast-paced, Metroidvania-inspired action roguelite from developer Voidmaw, combining fluid, souls-like combat with cosmic horror. Playing as Naut, you’ll slash and dodge your way through a station sprawling with twisted, once-human horrors, scavenging memory fragments and unlocking lost skills as you descend further into the shadows to uncover what really happened here.
What Makes It Different?

- Carry progress forward between runs through fragments gathered along the way
- Unlock 100 Steam achievements as you fight deeper into the station
Death Isn’t Quite the End Here
Katanaut leans into its roguelite structure by treating death as a reset rather than a full stop. Advanced time-manipulation brings Naut back whenever bio-metrics are no longer detected, and rather than losing everything, the memory fragments scattered throughout the station carry real weight into future attempts. Finding and unlocking these fragments gradually opens up lost skills and talents, meaning every fall still contributes something toward the next descent.
Every Corridor Feels Like It’s Watching
The station’s atmosphere is just as central to Katanaut as its combat. Flickering corridors, empty halls, and the constant sense that something is lurking just out of sight give exploration a genuine edge of cosmic horror, and the deeper the descent goes, the more unsettling the environments and enemies become. Whether favouring close, precision swordplay or picking enemies off from a safer distance, every run through the station’s violent halls plays out a little differently.
How Long Does a Run Take?
An average run typically lasts between 10 and 20 minutes. Because it’s a punishing, action-heavy roguelite, many beginner runs end in just a few minutes, while lasting more than 10 minutes is considered a successful push into later areas.
While individual attempts are relatively short, completing the entire core experience requires dozens of successful runs, with reaching the first ending taking around 20 to 30 hours of accumulated playtime, and unlocking everything taking roughly 40 hours.
Controller Support
Katanaut features Full Controller Support for Xbox Controllers and PlayStation Controllers.
Good If You Like…
Dead Cells and Hades both share that same tight, souls-like action roguelite feel. Rogue Legacy is also worth a look if the Metroidvania side of Katanaut’s descent is what’s pulling you in.
