Every second you spend not moving in Mycofall is a second you are not killing insects, which means mycelium is not spawning, which means your mushroom respawn meter stalls — and that chain of consequences is the game’s central tension. Mycofall, developed by Lazy KodKod Games and targeting release in July 2026, is a bullet-heaven auto-shooter set in a fantasy forest overrun by twisted, infected insects. Weapons and abilities fire automatically; the player’s job is positioning, dashing, and deciding what to build.

The mycelium system separates it from most survivors-style games. Mycelium drops from killed enemies and serves as both the in-run pickup resource and the fuel for a feedback loop the game tracks as mycelium-per-minute. Kill faster, move smarter through the drops, and the respawn meter fills quicker, generating more mushrooms, which pushes that rate higher. The game treats this figure seriously enough to surface it as a named metric, and leaderboard performance is directly tied to mastering it.

Each character can carry up to six skills, but the build system pushes depth through evolving and morphing those slots rather than stacking more of them. Individual skills can be steered toward crit, lifesteal, speed, or other directions through perks, and more than fifteen attributes — including dash range, armor, HP regeneration, and a mycelium bonus rate — give further tuning options. Character-specific perk sets can reorient an entire run’s playstyle. Synergies between evolved skills are the primary source of late-run power. Permanent unlocks, purchased with a dedicated currency called Meta Mushrooms, expand the available pool of characters, skills, and perks over time. Runs can be played solo or in online co-op, with leaderboards segmented by difficulty tier and player count to keep comparisons honest.

The game’s development has been visible since a playtest launched in February 2026. Early updates through March iterated on the base build. A major update in April preceded two patches that carried the version into the v0.2 range. May’s v0.3.16 introduced artifacts, a formal skill progression structure, and in-run events, followed by a further v0.3 patch later that month. June brought a substantial polish pass alongside the addition of a tutorial, and by July 2026 a playtest returned at v0.5. The arc from early playtest to near-launch has been consistent and update-heavy for a pre-release title.

A new player’s first hour will likely be spent learning to read the field — keeping movement tight enough to vacuum mycelium while steering the respawn meter upward, then sitting with the skill evolution screen long enough to understand that choosing fewer, deeper options beats grabbing everything available.
