The developers behind Mycofall, a bullet-heaven survivors-like auto-shooter, have postponed their Early Access launch indefinitely, citing unexpected legal complications that emerged just as the doors were set to open.
In an update posted to Steam, the team explained that they chose to delay rather than rush through potential problems. With Early Access originally planned for today, the new target window is now Q3 2026, though developers emphasized a clearer date will be announced as soon as it is locked in. This is the studio’s first game, and the decision reflects a cautious approach to protecting the project’s long-term viability.
The silver lining comes in the form of a new playtest build, which went live following three weeks of intensive development work. Rather than shelve the update entirely during the legal process, the team opted to release it to the community, allowing players to test the latest changes to the game’s mushroom-core loop and build system.
Mycofall tasks players with defeating waves of infected insects while harvesting mycelium, the game’s primary resource that spawns as enemies fall. The game emphasizes build optimization across six skills that can be evolved and morphed into distinct playstyles, paired with permanent meta-progression unlocks and online co-op support.
The playtest marks a tangible way forward while the studio navigates unexpected hurdles behind the scenes. For players eager to dig in, the build is available now.
