Flame Keeper is an action roguelite where survival isn’t simply about protecting your own health. Instead, you’re tasked with restoring the Eternal Flame by carrying its energy into each biome and deciding how much of your own power you’re willing to sacrifice to rebuild the world around you. You play as Ignis, a small piece of living coal, battling creatures corrupted by darkness while gathering energy that can either strengthen you in combat or be invested into the environment to unlock the path forward.
Each expedition revolves around balancing risk and reward. Depositing energy into campfires restores the world but also leaves Ignis weaker, forcing you to carefully consider when to become more vulnerable and when to continue fighting at full strength. Alongside fast-paced combat, permanent village upgrades, unlockable abilities, and different combat styles gradually expand your options, making each return to the world another opportunity to refine your approach.

Your Health Is Also Your Greatest Resource
Flame Keeper constantly asks you to spend the very resource that keeps you alive. The energy you collect from defeated enemies powers your attacks and improves your chances of survival, but that same energy must eventually be transferred into campfires if you want to restore each region and continue your journey.
That creates a constant tension throughout every biome. Holding onto your energy makes future fights easier, while depositing it leaves you considerably weaker. Deciding when you’re strong enough to give some of that power away becomes one of the game’s defining strategic decisions.
Fast Combat Rewards Smart Positioning
Combat is built around aggressive melee encounters where movement is just as important as attacking. Dodging incoming attacks, chaining together combos, and choosing the right moment to unleash stronger charged abilities all play a part in staying alive against increasingly dangerous enemies.
As new skills and passive abilities become available, you can gradually tailor Ignis to suit your preferred style of play. Some upgrades improve survivability, while others focus on dealing greater damage or creating new opportunities during combat.
Rebuild the World Between Runs
Every successful expedition contributes to more than your immediate progress. Resources gathered during your adventures can be invested in the village, unlocking permanent upgrades that strengthen future attempts and gradually expand what Ignis is capable of.
That progression gives each run lasting value. Even unsuccessful attempts move you closer to new upgrades, while each restored biome brings the Eternal Flame one step nearer to its former strength.
How Long Does a Run Take?
Completing Flame Keeper’s main adventure typically takes around 6½ to 8 hours, although individual play sessions can vary considerably depending on your progress and playstyle. Longer uninterrupted runs often last between 3 and 6 hours, while failed attempts and restarts naturally shorten individual sessions as you learn enemy patterns and improve your strategy.
Controller Support
Flame Keeper offers full controller support for Xbox controllers. Support for other controller types has not been officially specified.
