There comes a point in every run where the battlefield simply explodes into chaos. Dozens of Scottish warriors are charging beside you, arrows rain overhead, enemies pour in from every direction, and somewhere beyond the crowd waits another monstrous commander standing between you and your homeland. Tears of Metal captures the feeling of leading a desperate last stand, throwing you into huge medieval battles where survival depends as much on the army fighting beside you as the axe in your own hands.

Set on a fantasy version of the Isle of Skye, you play as the leader of the Resistance after the invading Dead Metal army devastates your home. Every expedition beyond the safety of your castle is another attempt to reclaim the island, recruiting allies, rescuing survivors, and gathering resources before eventually confronting increasingly powerful war machines and commanders. Defeat sends you back to rebuild, strengthen your resistance, and prepare for another assault, with every run bringing the island a little closer to liberation.

What Makes It Different?

  • Lead enormous battles featuring hundreds of enemies alongside dozens of AI-controlled Scottish allies
  • Recruit a growing roster of Resistance warriors, each bringing unique abilities to your army
  • Upgrade your castle between runs to unlock permanent improvements and new opportunities
  • Explore a hand-crafted version of the Isle of Skye inspired by Scottish history and folklore
  • Collect powerful weapons, relics, and upgrades that dramatically change each expedition
  • Battle gigantic bosses and deadly machines created by the invading Dead Metal army
  • Fully playable solo or in online co-op with friends

Every Expedition Feels Like a Campaign

Rather than sending you through disconnected arenas, Tears of Metal feels like one long military push across occupied territory. As you advance, your army grows around you. New allies join the fight, rescued soldiers return to the battlefield, and every encounter becomes larger than the last. One moment you’re cutting through scattered patrols, the next you’re caught in an all-out clash where the screen fills with allies and enemies battling for control. Even though you’re always at the centre of the action, it rarely feels like you’re fighting alone.

That larger sense of purpose continues between runs. Resources gathered during each expedition help rebuild the Resistance, strengthening your castle and unlocking permanent upgrades that make future campaigns more ambitious. New recruits, better equipment, and stronger defences steadily transform what begins as a struggling rebellion into an army capable of taking the fight back to the Dead Metal invasion. The result is a roguelite that balances explosive action with the satisfying feeling of watching an entire resistance movement grow stronger alongside you.

Good If You Like…

Players who enjoy Hades II, Ravenswatch, Warm Snow, or Realm of Ink should find plenty to enjoy in Tears of Metal’s fast melee combat, powerful run-based upgrades, and growing sense of momentum as each expedition turns into a full-scale battle.
