Every toy slot on the desk is a binding commitment: place a Doll Chef near the front line and she locks down space with kitchen-themed fortifications, but slot Dr. Hamster there instead and you’re betting on a swarm of small units to overwhelm before the enemy stabilizes. Toy Smash Kaboom!, developed by Free Particle and released December 3, 2025, is a strategy roguelite built around arranging, combining, and evolving a legion of cartoon toys across a tabletop battlefield.

The collection spans over 400 toys broken into distinct roles: more than 100 summonable units that clash directly in head-to-head collisions, over 50 traps and class abilities that interrupt enemy momentum and create counterattack windows, and upward of 250 magic items and weapons that stack into combo chains. Positioning matters beyond raw statistics because the knockback system lets a well-timed charge send enemies physically flying across the table, disrupting formations in ways that pure stat comparisons do not predict. Traps placed in advance can blunt an enemy push before it reaches your units, shifting the pacing of a match entirely.

Four Toy Captains anchor different strategies. Doll Chef rewards defensive spacing, Puppet Musician accelerates allies while disrupting enemy timing, Naughty Andy leans into summoning undead and dark-curse units, and Dr. Hamster commits fully to numerical swarm pressure. Each captain carries a unique toy arsenal and exclusive class abilities, so the choice at the start of a run shapes which of the game’s 400-plus pieces are relevant. A Steam friends integration lets players convert friends into customizable Game Buddy units and field them in the toy army, adding a social texture to roster-building. Asynchronous PvP pits a player’s assembled legion against globally submitted builds in ranked mirror matches.

The game launched in December 2025 and received hotfixes within days addressing specific unit bugs and item descriptions. January 2026 brought balance patches and optimizations through versions 1.0.9 and 1.0.10. The first major named update, Version 1.1.0, arrived in February 2026, adding new modes, Spring Festival cosmetics, and a skin DLC alongside an official soundtrack release and a community creation event. Version 1.1.2 followed in March with a dedicated Challenge Mode and its own hotfix pass. April 2026 brought a new character reveal, and by July 2026 Free Particle was previewing a frozen-land companion character, indicating continued post-launch expansion of the captain roster.

A new player’s first hour involves picking one of the four captains, filling desk slots with starting toys, learning which unit types chain well together through the first few tabletop collisions, and finding the first trap placement that genuinely reverses a losing skirmish.
