Dave the Diver splits every in-game day between two distinct activities: underwater diving in a procedurally shifting Blue Hole during daylight hours, and running a sushi restaurant with the catch each evening. MintRocket released the game on June 28, 2023.

The diving half plays as a side-scrolling action-exploration game. Dave carries a harpoon and an expanding arsenal of other weapons to catch fish and fight the creatures that inhabit deeper, more dangerous layers of the Blue Hole. Oxygen is a hard resource limit — surfacing empty-handed means losing everything collected that dive. Resources and restaurant revenue both feed an equipment upgrade and forging system that gradually opens access to harder depths.

Running the restaurant is a management layer: the fish caught determine the menu, staff must be directed during service, and profits cycle back into diving gear. Neither half is self-contained; each depends on the other to advance.

Difficulty sits at the accessible end of the spectrum — death is inconvenient rather than punishing, and the Blue Hole’s layout changes between dives without the harsh permadeath stakes of traditional roguelikes — though the roguelike label applies loosely through the ever-changing underwater environment and the resource-loss-on-failure mechanic. Over 200 species of sea creature populate the world, rendered in a hybrid pixel-and-3D art style. A cast of eccentric supporting characters carries a lighthearted story full of humor and side-quest branching.

  • Procedurally reconfigured Blue Hole across every dive session
  • Oxygen depletion forces surface return, forfeiting uncollected items
  • Weapon and equipment forging funded by restaurant profits
  • Sushi restaurant management with nightly service sequences
  • Over 200 catalogued sea creatures serving as both quarry and hazard
  • Minigames and multiple side storylines alongside the main narrative

Launched into version 1.0 in mid-2023, the game has received continued support since. A notable story expansion, In the Jungle, released in June 2026, accompanied by a pre-order period, developer communication updates, and a rapid sequence of hotfixes and bug-fix patches through June and into July 2026. The Digital Extra DLC soundtrack was also migrated to Steam’s dedicated soundtrack delivery system during that same window.
