Running out of bullets is bad. Running out of oxygen while trapped aboard a ship full of hostile security systems and dangerous inhabitants is a lot worse. Void Bastards turns every mission into a balancing act, asking you to decide how much you’re willing to risk for the supplies you need before making your escape.

It’s a first-person strategy shooter roguelite where you’ll board abandoned spacecraft across the Sargasso Nebula in search of crafting materials, weapons, and resources. Every ship presents a different layout, new hazards, and fresh opportunities, encouraging you to think on your feet as you gather what you need to keep your campaign moving forward.

What Makes It Different?

  • Board procedurally generated derelict spacecraft
  • Scavenge crafting materials, ammunition, food, and oxygen
  • Navigate unique ship layouts filled with hazards and enemies
  • Craft new tools, weapons, and equipment between missions
  • Permanent progression carries across disposable characters
  • Make strategic decisions about which ships to explore
  • Complete a campaign built from dozens of bite-sized missions

Every Boarding Mission Is a Calculated Risk

Stepping aboard a new ship always comes with difficult decisions. Do you search one more room for valuable crafting materials, or head back to the airlock before your oxygen runs low? Is a dangerous detour worth the reward waiting on the other side?

Those choices give each mission its own identity. Success isn’t measured by eliminating every threat but by knowing when you’ve accomplished enough to escape with your supplies intact.

Every Loss Still Moves You Forward

Characters don’t always survive for long, but the campaign doesn’t start from scratch when they fall. The resources you recover contribute to crafting better equipment, gradually expanding your options for future missions.

That long-term progression makes every successful escape feel worthwhile. Even smaller expeditions help build toward stronger gear, opening the door to exploring more dangerous ships later in the campaign.

Easy to Pick Up, Difficult to Put Down

Individual missions are short enough to fit into a quick play session, yet they naturally feed into a much longer adventure. One successful scavenging trip often provides the resources you need for another, making it surprisingly easy to convince yourself there’s time for just one more ship.

That structure gives Void Bastards a satisfying feel. You’re constantly making progress without needing to commit to hours of uninterrupted play.

How Long Does a Run Take?

A typical boarding mission in Void Bastards lasts around 10 to 20 minutes, making it well suited to shorter play sessions. Completing the full campaign generally takes 8.5 to 15 hours, with that time made up of dozens of individual scavenging runs across different spacecraft.

Controller Support

Void Bastards offers full controller support for Xbox controllers.

Good If You Like…

If you enjoyed Deadzone: Rogue, Gunfire Reborn, Roboquest, and SYNTHETIK: Legion Rising, Void Bastards offers a similarly satisfying mix of first-person combat, roguelite progression, and adapting your strategy as each run presents a fresh set of challenges.
