Every run in Abyssus begins with a negotiation: before a single shot is fired, your team of up to four players must agree on weapons, suits, and skill loadouts that actually complement each other, because a squad that ignores synergies will not survive long against the corrupted guardians waiting below. Developed by DoubleMoose Games and released on August 12, 2025, Abyssus is a first-person shooter roguelite set in a brinepunk underwater world where a sunken ancient civilization has risen, hostile and mutated, against a crew of mercenary explorers sent to extract a rare deep-sea substance called brine.

Combat is fast and demands positioning as much as firepower. The arsenal spans nine weapons, each moddable with a selection of 45 weapon mods, and further empowered through over 140 Ancient Forge modifications that layer elemental and mystic effects onto attacks. On top of weapon customization, more than 250 Charms and Blessings can be assembled across a run to steer a build toward a particular playstyle or exploit enemy weaknesses. Thirty-six enemy types and twelve bosses test whether that build holds up under pressure. The levels themselves are hand-crafted — over 70 of them — but procedurally sequenced each run, so the path through the ruins never repeats exactly. Unlocks and advancements accumulate across runs, widening the pool of tactical options available before and during each attempt.

The game shipped in August 2025 and received immediate hotfixes within its first weeks. Update 1.1, arriving in October 2025, added new modes and challenges alongside the Brineguard Pack. January 2026 brought the named update Brinefrost, version 1.2, followed by its own hotfix. The most substantial post-launch addition came in June 2026 with Update 1.3, which introduced full cross-platform multiplayer and received a stabilizing hotfix the following month. DoubleMoose also bundled Abyssus with another co-op title, Rogue Point, in early 2026.

A new player’s first hour involves picking a weapon and suit from an initially modest selection, learning the rhythm of a few hand-crafted rooms, dying to a boss, and returning with a slightly broader set of permanent options to experiment with next time.
