Megabonk
Where most horde-survival roguelikes lean into elaborate skill trees or weapon evolution chains, Megabonk keeps its escalation direct: kill things, collect experience, pick an upgrade from a randomised pool, and see how long you last. Developed by vedinad, it released on September 18, 2025.
Each run takes place on a randomly generated map where enemies and bosses spawn in escalating waves. Defeating enemies drops experience, and the more you kill in sequence the faster your character levels. At each level-up the game offers a selection of upgrades drawn from a rarity-tiered pool, so no two runs present identical choices. The roster spans 20 characters, each with a distinct ability, and over 70 items that interact with one another, meaning build variety comes from synergy discovery rather than a fixed upgrade path.
Outside individual runs, 240 in-game quests drive longer-term unlocks, giving players structured reasons to experiment with different characters and item combinations across sessions.
The update arc began before launch: a Steam Deck compatibility note appeared in February 2025, and a general news post followed in July, suggesting vedinad was building toward release through most of the year. The game launched in September 2025 and received two patches within its first month. October brought further balance fixes and a leaderboard correction. A Spooky Update arrived in late 2025, followed quickly by fixes for it, and a Christmas Patch closed out December. January 2026 added a hats update, indicating cosmetic content is now part of the post-launch cadence.
For players familiar with Vampire Survivors, Megabonk occupies similar territory but shifts emphasis toward discrete item synergies and a broader character roster rather than weapon evolution as the primary build engine.
