A spoilt princess wakes up in a dungeon with no memory, no prince coming to save her, and no servants. Just a talking cat, a recipe book, and some genuinely unwelcome news: the kingdom is cursed, every creature of British and Irish folklore has turned ravenous, and cooking her way out is the only option left.

Hungry Horrors is a roguelite card-based adventure from developer Clumsy Bear Studio, set across a cursed kingdom steeped in British and Irish mythology. Cooking traditional dishes, seasoning cards to unlock new abilities, and learning each mythical Horror’s cravings and hatreds, you’ll build flavor synergies and serve the perfect meal to survive one furious princess’s journey home.

What Makes It Different?

  • Craft a deck of authentic British and Irish recipes, from Cranachan to Toad in the Hole
  • Season cards to change their flavor and unlock powerful new abilities
  • Face legendary Horrors drawn from English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh folklore
  • Match each Horror’s specific cravings to chain flavors and snowball hunger
  • Equip cookware that bends the rules of every encounter
  • Explore dark woods, gloomy meadows, spooky bogs, and a misty loch
  • Choose Vanilla or Spicy modes, and stack modifiers to twist each run further

Cook Your Way Through a Cursed Kingdom

Rather than fighting enemies in a traditional sense, Hungry Horrors reframes combat entirely around cooking. Every dish carries one of five flavors, salty, sour, savory, bitter, or sweet, and matching those flavors to a specific Horror’s cravings is what actually wins the encounter. Read a Horror right, and it leaves satisfied. Read it wrong, and the princess risks becoming the next course herself.

Folklore With Real Teeth

Each Horror encountered, whether Jenny Greenteeth, the Dullahan, or Y Fad Felen, comes with its own appetite, preferences, and grudges rooted in genuine folklore. Learning the origins behind these creatures and exploiting what they love or despise turns every fight into a small puzzle, and equipping the right cookware or seasoning cards ahead of time can make even a fearsome legend far easier to satisfy.

How Long Does a Run Take?

An average session or run time is about one hour. An average session lasts roughly 60 minutes per sitting or full multi-level session. Clearing the main aspects of the game takes about 7 to 9.5 hours total as progress moves through multiple biomes and persistent unlocks. Unlike traditional card games, turns involve precise cooking and feeding mechanics under time pressure, keeping individual encounters brisk.

Controller Support

Hungry Horrors features Full Controller Support for Xbox Controllers and PlayStation Controllers.

Good If You Like…

If you enjoyed Slay the Spire, Roguebook, or SpellRogue, Hungry Horrors’ mix of deckbuilding and folklore-driven roguelite storytelling should be well worth a look.
