Driving a tank through a ruined world is only half the challenge in Heroes of Retribution, because before long you’ll also be recruiting allies, navigating rival factions, and making decisions that shape humanity’s future as the game launches into Steam Early Access today.
The game drops players into a bleak post-collapse world where every mission begins with a simple objective before slowly revealing a much bigger fight. One moment you’re keeping a lonely lamppost burning on the road to a coal mine, the next you’re uncovering threats that could determine the future of the world itself.
While tank combat sits at the heart of the experience, Heroes of Retribution has far more on its mind than simply firing bigger shells. Every run gives players opportunities to upgrade their vehicle with new weapons and equipment, recruit powerful heroes with unique passive abilities, and shape their strategy around an ever-growing roster of allies.
The choices don’t stop on the battlefield either. Different factions compete for your loyalty throughout the campaign, and deciding who to support carries consequences that ripple through the story, giving players another reason to see how different decisions play out on future runs.
Developer Sortech Studio describes today’s release as the beginning of the game’s Early Access journey rather than the finished destination. The main story is already in place, but new quests, expanded storylines, and continued polish are all planned as development moves forward.
For roguelike fans looking for something a little different, Heroes of Retribution is a great little game to check out.
