Spiritfall

Each run in Spiritfall drops you into a randomly generated map where you fight through waves of enemies using platform-fighter combat — the kind built around launchers, wall splats, and airborne follow-ups rather than hitpoint attrition or turn management. You move and attack fluidly across 2D stages, chaining ground and aerial strikes to keep enemies in disadvantageous states while collecting blessings from divine spirits that permanently alter your capabilities for that run. With over 150 blessings available, the build space is wide enough that two runs rarely feel identical, and finding combinations that amplify each other is the primary source of depth.

Weapons each carry distinct movesets, so the character you play varies meaningfully depending on what you unlock and equip. Between runs, resources gathered in the field go toward permanent upgrades at the Sanctum — new abilities, weapon unlocks, and stat improvements that make subsequent attempts more capable without removing the skill requirement from combat. Players who want deliberate, tactical pacing or who find platform-fighter timing and combo execution frustrating will likely bounce off this one quickly.

Spiritfall was developed by Gentle Giant and released on February 28, 2024, following an Early Access period during which the studio incorporated community feedback. Post-launch updates arrived steadily: Version 1.2 in June 2024 added cosmetics and Tipp’s Library, Version 1.3 that same month introduced the Daring Duo, and Version 1.4 in August brought crossover cosmetics. Version 1.5 in September 2024 added the Meditation Chamber, and the substantial Version 1.6 free update landed in February 2025. The game expanded to consoles in May 2025, and active hotfix patches have continued through mid-2025.
