Breachway
Breachway is a sci-fi deckbuilding roguelike that puts you in command of a lone warship crossing a dangerous galaxy in search of a mysterious signal. Every expedition revolves around assembling a crew, equipping your ship, managing scarce resources, and navigating a branching route through hostile sectors filled with battles, events, stations, and competing factions. The decisions you make along the way influence both your build and the story that unfolds as your journey progresses.
Your ship is built around a combination of weapons, defensive systems, and internal modules, each adding new cards to your deck and opening different tactical possibilities in combat. Victories unlock additional cards and upgrades, while relationships with four distinct factions shape the equipment available to you and determine how the galaxy responds to your actions. Each run gradually expands your knowledge of the game, encouraging you to experiment with different ships, equipment combinations, and faction allegiances on future expeditions.
What Makes It Different?
- Combines deckbuilding with starship management and turn-based space combat
- Lets your equipped weapons and ship systems determine the cards added to your deck

- Encourages experimenting with different ships, loadouts, and faction paths across repeated runs
Build Your Ship One System at a Time
Every ship begins with a chassis, but its identity is defined by the equipment you install. Weapons, defensive systems, and internal modules all contribute cards to your deck, meaning every upgrade changes both your ship’s capabilities and the tactical options available during combat.
Finding strong combinations becomes a major part of each expedition. A new piece of equipment isn’t simply an upgrade in isolation. It changes how the rest of your deck functions, creating opportunities to build around powerful interactions as your run develops.
Every Battle Is About Timing
Combat rewards planning just as much as firepower. The order you play your cards can determine whether you unleash a devastating opening attack, build an impenetrable defense, or leave yourself vulnerable to enemy retaliation.
Different equipment opens up different approaches to battle. You can disable enemy systems through hacking, overload ships with heat, overwhelm point defense networks, or assemble combinations that steadily take control of the fight through careful resource management and card sequencing.
Choose Who You’ll Trust
The galaxy isn’t populated by enemies alone. Four factions compete for influence, each offering different opportunities, equipment, and storylines depending on how you interact with them. Helping one group may damage your standing with another, changing both the narrative and the rewards available later in the run.
These relationships give each expedition a different feel. Combined with branching routes, randomized events, and evolving ship builds, they ensure that no two journeys through the galaxy unfold in quite the same way.
How Long Does a Run Take?
A complete run in Breachway typically lasts between one and two hours, depending on how you approach each expedition. Clearing an individual sector generally takes 30 to 60 minutes, while players who take time to explore optional events, read dialogue, and carefully plan their route can expect longer runs.
Experienced players moving quickly through sectors can often complete successful expeditions closer to the lower end of that range.
Controller Support
Breachway does not currently list official controller support on its Steam store page.
Good If You Like…
Players who enjoy FTL: Faster Than Light, Across the Obelisk, StarVaders, or Cobalt Core should appreciate Breachway’s approach to building a ship through interconnected systems, where every new piece of equipment reshapes your deck and every route through the galaxy presents new tactical and narrative decisions.
