Book of Demons
Flip open the pages of a pop-up book, and an entire dark fantasy world unfolds in paper and card form. Somewhere beneath Paperverse lies the Book of Demons, and stopping the Archdemon Nakrud from wielding its power means diving deeper into card-based dungeons than anyone else has dared.
Book of Demons is a hack & slash dungeon crawler roguelite from developer Thing Trunk, the first entry in their Return 2 Games line. Choosing from three classes, each with hundreds of unique cards to master, you’ll customize dungeon length with the innovative Flexiscope system, battling through paper-craft levels on the way to confronting Nakrud himself.

Choose How Deep You Want to Go
Flexiscope is Book of Demons’ standout idea, letting players decide upfront exactly how long a dungeon dive is going to be. Short dungeons offer a quick burst of action, while long dungeons push much further into danger and reward, and switching between them run to run means the game bends around whatever amount of time is actually available. That flexibility makes it unusually easy to fit in a single satisfying session, however much time there is to spare.
Cards Instead of Clutter
Rather than a traditional loot-heavy inventory, Book of Demons builds its entire progression system around cards. Each of the three classes comes with hundreds of unique cards to collect and combine, streamlining what could otherwise be an overwhelming itemization system into something quick to parse but still full of meaningful choices. Controls stay simple throughout too, letting the game’s paper-craft world and combat take center stage without unnecessary complexity getting in the way.
How Long Does a Run Take?
The average individual run length depends on the option chosen, since the game uses a system called Flexiscope that lets players decide how long each dungeon dive should be. Short dungeons run 5 to 15 minutes, medium dungeons run 20 to 30 minutes, and long dungeons stretch to 40 to 60 minutes or more. The main campaign takes about 10 hours on average to complete with a single character class, while reaching 100% completion, including maxing out characters, mastering higher Freeplay difficulties, and unlocking all achievements, takes around 36 to 50 hours.
Controller Support
Book of Demons features Full Controller Support for Xbox Controllers, PlayStation Controllers, and the Steam Input API.
