Every gate passed through on the way up the Arcane Tower reshapes what waits ahead. Choosing an elemental path decides which creatures, events, and rewards show up next, and by the time the final boss appears, it’s been shaped entirely by the choices made along the way.

Arcane Ascent is a roguelike deckbuilder from developer Catbot Games. Building a powerful spell deck, crafting artifacts through alchemy, and adapting strategy on the fly, you’ll ascend the Arcane Tower as one of several wizards, each with a distinct combat style, forging the ultimate challenge for yourself with every choice made along the climb.

What Makes It Different?

  • Shape your own final boss through every elemental gate you choose
  • Play as different wizards, each with a unique combat style and strategy
  • Master alchemy to craft powerful artifacts from gathered resources
  • Turn failed attempts into permanent relics that strengthen future runs
  • Summon demons, wield mighty weapons, and reconstruct ancient grimoires
  • Explore procedurally generated encounters, NPCs, and events every run
  • Unlock 17 Steam achievements as you climb higher into the tower

Every Choice Builds Your Own Boss

Arcane Ascent hands players an unusual amount of control over their own difficulty curve. Passing through an elemental gate doesn’t just open a new area, it actively reshapes the enemies, events, and rewards waiting ahead, meaning the final boss encountered at the top of the tower is quite literally forged from the decisions made along the way. That system rewards experimenting with different elemental paths, since no two climbs end up facing quite the same challenge.

Defeat Isn’t the End of the Climb

Falling in the Arcane Tower doesn’t erase progress entirely. Resources gathered from failed attempts can be poured into forging relics of genuine power, giving each new climb access to demons to summon, weapons to wield, and grimoires reconstructed from ancient mages. Combined with procedurally generated encounters and card combinations, that steady accumulation of power keeps pushing further into the tower feeling worthwhile, even after a rough run.

How Long Does a Run Take?

A single successful run of the tower usually takes 45 to 60 minutes for experienced players. However, because it’s a roguelite, most players will do dozens of runs, bringing the total time to fully clear the game and reach the Primordial Orb to around 10 to 15 hours. A typical attempt to climb the tower takes about 45 to 60 minutes once the mechanics click, most players manage to beat the Primeval Witch and finish their first full run in 5 to 10 hours, and unlocking every spell, relic, and alchemical item can take over 15 hours.

Good If You Like…

If you enjoyed Slay the Spire, Roguebook, or Monster Train, Arcane Ascent’s mix of deckbuilding and shifting, player-shaped challenge should feel right at home. Its elemental gate system adds a genuinely different spin on how a run’s difficulty gets forged.
