dotAGE is a turn-based survival city builder where every day begins with a limited number of workers and far more jobs than they can possibly complete. You play as the Elder, guiding a small group of villagers known as Pips after leading them to an empty valley in an attempt to escape an approaching apocalypse. Each turn is spent assigning those Pips to essential tasks, from growing crops and herding animals to forging tools, upgrading buildings, training professionals, and producing the resources the village needs to survive.

Nothing happens until you decide to pass the turn, giving you as much time as you need to examine the village and plan every assignment. That careful pace does not make life easy, though. The Prophecy continues advancing while powerful Domains unleash new events upon the settlement, forcing you to prepare for disease, poison, earthquakes, and plenty of other disasters that can undo several turns of work at once. Surviving means building a productive village while keeping enough flexibility to respond when the next problem arrives.

What Makes It Different?

  • Combines turn-based city building with roguelite survival
  • Uses worker placement mechanics inspired by board games
  • Lets you assign Pips to daily jobs before manually ending each turn
  • Includes more than 200 buildings, 30 professions, and 70 resources
  • Covers tasks such as farming, animal care, toolmaking, building upgrades, and corpse burial
  • Introduces increasingly powerful events through the Domains
  • Features threats ranging from poison and disease to earthquakes and kittens
  • Unlocks new mechanics and content as the Elder recovers lost memories
  • Includes additional ailments, VIPs, and Elders to discover
  • Offers multiple difficulty options and increasingly challenging Mastery levels

Every Pip Has Work to Do

The village depends on assigning the right worker to the right task at the right time. Some Pips may need to produce food, while others gather materials, construct buildings, care for animals, or train for specialized professions. With only so many workers available each day, committing someone to one job always means leaving another task unfinished.

New buildings and professions gradually expand what the settlement can accomplish, but they also create longer production chains to manage. Forging a useful tool may require several resources and workers spread across multiple turns, while upgrading an existing structure can delay something more urgent. Because time only advances when you choose, the challenge comes from working out which priorities cannot be postponed.

The Prophecy Keeps Getting Worse

While you build, the Domains governing the world continue preparing events that will strike the village. These threats become more powerful as the run progresses, giving you time to prepare but rarely enough resources to cover every possibility. Protecting the settlement may require stockpiling supplies, constructing specific buildings, or training Pips for jobs that are not immediately useful.

The events are not limited to one type of disaster. Disease can threaten your population, poison can disrupt the village, and earthquakes can damage the work you have already completed. The uncertainty surrounding each run makes adaptation essential, particularly when the Elder’s unclear memories change which buildings become available to discover.

Remembering More With Every Attempt

A failed village does not leave you with nothing. As you play, the Elder gradually recovers memories that unlock new mechanics and content for future runs. These additions include new ailments, mysterious VIPs, and additional Elders, steadily expanding the number of situations and strategies you can encounter.

Different difficulty settings allow you to approach dotAGE as a more relaxed turn-based town builder or push into increasingly demanding Mastery levels. With hundreds of buildings and dozens of professions and resources, each new village gives you another chance to organize your workers more efficiently and prepare a little better for the end of the world.

Good If You Like…

Players who enjoy Against the Storm, Stacklands, Cardboard Town, or The Last Spell should appreciate dotAGE’s combination of worker placement, village management, turn-based planning, and roguelite progression.
