Each run in Magicraft drops you into an aerial fantasy world as a mage who has pulled a legendary staff from the ground. You move through five chapters spanning dense forests, purgatory, and rifts in time and space, fighting monsters and bosses culminating in a Demon Lord encounter. Combat is built around assembling spells on the fly: the game offers around one hundred spells that can be combined with each other, producing effects the developer Wave Games acknowledges even they cannot fully anticipate. A summoner build, an elemental mage, a staff-swinging melee mage — the spell interaction space is wide enough that no two runs settle into the same configuration.

Runs are structured around a pool of one hundred distinct staffs with their own attributes, eighty relics that modify stats and alter the character’s appearance, and nine starting character sets that shape early options. Between combat encounters, blacksmith and shop stops let you upgrade and purchase, and the game folds in puzzle rooms — dedicated decryption levels where solving environmental challenges rewards new relics or spells rather than fighting through them directly. Players who want pure action and find inventory or spell-crafting management more tedious than interesting are the ones most likely to drop off early.

Magicraft was developed by Wave Games and released on November 1, 2024. The update history shows consistent patching through late 2024 and into 2025 across a 1.1.x branch. October 2025 marked a more significant milestone: version 1.2 launched alongside a free crossover DLC with Dave the Diver, which coincided with the game reaching 700,000 copies sold. That update also introduced DOTS optimization work. Patching continued frequently through the rest of 2025 and into early 2026, with the version number reaching 1.2.28 by July 2026. A cosmetic Summer DLC adding new costumes arrived in July 2026 as well.
