Deep beneath the surface lies the core, and reaching it means leading a squad of survivors through a shifting, dangerous descent. Every choice made along the way, from positioning in battle to which cards make it into the deck, shapes whether the squad makes it to the bottom or not.

As We Descend is a squad-based roguelike deckbuilder from developer Bit Fabrik. Commanding a team of survivors through three depths of danger, building a shared deck around positioning and party synergy, and adapting to whatever the descent throws in the way, you’ll fight to reach the core before the squad runs out of options.

What Makes It Different?

  • Command a full squad rather than a single hero across every encounter
  • Build a shared deck where positioning and party composition genuinely matter
  • Descend through three distinct depths on the way to the core
  • Adapt strategy on the fly as survivors face escalating threats
  • Combine character abilities into synergistic, squad-wide combos
  • Explore a world shaped by choices made throughout the descent
  • Push through a tightly paced campaign built for repeated attempts

A Deck Built Around the Whole Squad

Unlike single-hero deckbuilders, As We Descend puts the entire squad’s composition at the center of strategy. Where each survivor stands, and how their cards interact with teammates nearby, matters just as much as the individual cards being played. That squad-first approach adds a genuine tactical layer on top of the usual deckbuilding decisions, since a strong card can still fall flat without the right positioning to back it up.

Three Depths, One Core

Structuring the descent around three distinct depths gives As We Descend a clear sense of progress toward a defined goal. Each depth ramps up the pressure, forcing the squad’s deck and formation to keep evolving to match escalating threats, and reaching the core at the end of a successful run feels like the payoff for a genuinely demanding, layered strategy built up over the whole descent.

How Long Does a Run Take?

The average successful run time for a full game loop is approximately 3 hours, though updates and faster pacing or experienced play can compress individual successful runs closer to 1 to 2 hours. A standard successful run runs around 3 hours for a complete 3-depth descent to the core, and developer updates have aimed to fine-tune campaign pacing to tighten individual session lengths toward roughly 1 hour for familiar players. Focusing on main run completion averages about 3 hours per successful profile milestone, while broader main-plus-extras playtime averages around 11.5 hours.
