Temple Door Games Teases New Content for Swordcery in Latest Video

When we first covered Swordcery, the upcoming action roguelike from two former God of War animators, one of the game’s biggest selling points was its increasingly ridiculous collection of weapons. Alongside more traditional enchanted blades, players could apparently fight with tennis rackets, sharks, and other objects that only loosely qualify as swords.

Now Temple Door Games has revealed what might be the game’s most aggressive interpretation of the word yet, a Chainsaw Sword.

Chainsaw Sword in Action Swordcery

The studio recently shared a new YouTube Short showing off the weapon in action, giving players a brief look at the latest addition to Swordcery’s growing arsenal. It’s exactly what it sounds like. Part sword, part chainsaw, and entirely in line with the game’s apparent philosophy that if something can theoretically be swung at an enemy, it probably belongs in the game.

That’s becoming a defining theme of Swordcery. Rather than building its combat around a handful of weapon archetypes, the game seems determined to turn every new sword reveal into a surprise. As we covered previously, each weapon belongs to its own class and comes equipped with unique combo chains and magical abilities known as Swordceries, encouraging players to constantly experiment during runs.

The Chainsaw Sword appears to continue that approach. While Temple Door Games hasn’t shared detailed information about its abilities yet, the footage suggests another weapon designed to feel distinct rather than simply serving as a visual reskin.

The premise of the game remains wonderfully over-the-top. A colossal sword has pierced the Earth, scattering enchanted blades across the world. Players take control of Colt, an unlikely hero tasked with wielding these weapons to push back against a Celestial corruption consuming the land.

If nothing else, the Chainsaw Sword suggests Temple Door Games still hasn’t run out of strange ideas for what qualifies as a weapon. Considering the game already lets players hit monsters with a shark, that might be the least surprising thing about it.
