Few roguelites have had a bigger impact on the genre than Hades. Supergiant Games took fast-paced combat, memorable characters, and an endlessly rewarding progression system, and combined them into a game that introduced millions of players to roguelites for the very first time.
The problem is that once you’ve escaped the Underworld enough times, finding something that captures that same feeling isn’t always easy. Plenty of games have tried to recreate Hades’ formula, but the best recommendations aren’t always the ones that look the most similar. Sometimes it’s the combat, the progression, or simply the satisfying rhythm of every run that keeps players coming back.
We know how difficult it can be to find a game that truly fills the Hades-shaped hole in your library. If you’ve loved every minute of Supergiant’s masterpiece, these are the six rogue games we think you should play next.
1. Curse of the Dead Gods
If what kept you coming back to Hades was its combat, Curse of the Dead Gods should be at the very top of your list. It shares the same deliberate, skill-based approach to every encounter, rewarding careful dodges, well-timed parries, and learning enemy attack patterns rather than simply overpowering everything in your path.
The biggest difference is its atmosphere. While Hades wraps every escape attempt in vibrant characters and witty conversations, Curse of the Dead Gods takes you deep into a dark temple filled with deadly traps, hidden secrets, and a corruption system that constantly tempts you with powerful abilities at a cost. Every decision feels a little riskier, and every victory feels hard earned.
It doesn’t have Hades’ unforgettable cast of characters, but when it comes to pure combat, it’s every bit as satisfying. If mastering the Blade of Stygius was your favorite part of Hades, you’ll feel right at home here.
2. Warm Snow
Warm Snow feels remarkably familiar the first time you pick up a sword. Like Hades, it’s a fast-paced action roguelite built around fluid combat, powerful builds, and the promise that every run will play out a little differently depending on the upgrades you discover along the way.
Where it sets itself apart is its combat style. Instead of relying purely on melee attacks, Warm Snow allows you to control magical flying swords that orbit your character before launching towards enemies, creating spectacular combinations as relics and abilities begin to stack together. The dark fantasy setting also gives the adventure a very different atmosphere, replacing Greek mythology with a mysterious world shaped by an unnatural snowfall.
It may not match Hades when it comes to storytelling or character interactions, but its combat is every bit as exhilarating. Players who loved experimenting with different weapons and builds in Hades will find plenty to enjoy here.
3. SWORN
If Hades left you wishing you could tackle the Underworld with friends, SWORN is an easy recommendation. It takes the same fast-paced action roguelite formula and places it inside a beautifully illustrated version of Camelot, where King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table have fallen to corruption.
Like Hades, every run is built around discovering powerful blessings that completely change the way your character plays. Different weapons, abilities, and over 200 unique blessings create an enormous number of possible builds, while permanent upgrades ensure every defeat leaves you a little stronger for the next attempt. The biggest addition is four-player co-op, allowing friends to combine their abilities in ways that simply aren’t possible in Supergiant’s classic.
It doesn’t quite match Hades’ storytelling, but few games do. When it comes to frantic combat and endlessly experimenting with new builds, SWORN more than holds its own.
4. Dead Cells
Dead Cells and Hades approach roguelites from different directions, but they share one thing in common and that’s combat that feels fantastic from the very first run. Every weapon is responsive, every dodge matters, and every victory feels like the result of improving your own skills rather than simply getting lucky.
The biggest difference is how the two games are structured. While Hades sends you through a series of distinct regions, Dead Cells combines roguelite progression with an interconnected world full of branching paths, hidden areas, and secrets that gradually reveal themselves over dozens of runs. New weapons, mutations, and abilities constantly expand your options, encouraging you to experiment with completely different playstyles every time you return.
It doesn’t have Hades’ memorable conversations between runs, but few action roguelites can match the sheer variety of Dead Cells. If your favorite part of Hades was mastering its combat, this should be one of the first games you play next.
5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate
If one of your favorite parts of Hades was experimenting with different weapons, you’ll feel right at home in TMNT: Splintered Fate. Each of the four Turtles brings their own distinct combat style, and every run gives you new powers, elemental upgrades, and abilities that can completely transform how they play.
The similarities to Hades are hard to miss. Fast-paced combat, randomized room layouts, powerful boons, memorable boss encounters, and a constant stream of meaningful upgrades all combine to create that familiar addictive feeling. Where Splintered Fate carves out its own identity is through co-op, allowing you to tackle New York’s streets with friends as you combine different Turtle abilities to create some wonderfully chaotic builds.
It doesn’t quite reach Hades’ level when it comes to storytelling, but the combat is every bit as satisfying.
6. Rogue Legacy 2
Rogue Legacy 2 approaches progression very differently from Hades, but it’s every bit as rewarding. Instead of escaping the Underworld over and over again, every defeat becomes part of your family’s history as a new heir steps forward to continue the adventure, each with their own class, traits, strengths, and weaknesses.
Like Hades, every run leaves you a little stronger than before. Gold earned during your adventures can be invested into your family manor, unlocking permanent upgrades that gradually open new possibilities without ever removing the challenge. The huge variety of classes, relics, and randomly generated kingdoms, also means every journey feels fresh, encouraging you to adapt rather than rely on the same strategy every time.
It doesn’t have the same emphasis on narrative, but its progression system is one of the smartest in the genre. If what kept you hooked on Hades was always having another meaningful upgrade waiting around the corner, Rogue Legacy 2 delivers that feeling in abundance.
Where Will You Go After the Underworld?
No game quite captures the complete package that Hades delivers. There’s a reason six years on it’s still considered the benchmark for action roguelites. Supergiant’s masterpiece combines fast-paced combat, memorable characters, incredible music, and rewarding progression in a way that’s remarkably difficult to match.
That doesn’t mean the journey has to end there, though. Whether you’re looking for combat as satisfying as Curse of the Dead Gods, the stylish action of Warm Snow, the co-op chaos of SWORN and TMNT: Splintered Fate, or the endlessly rewarding progression of Dead Cells and Rogue Legacy 2, each of these games captures a different part of what made Hades so special.
