If you’ve been waiting for a chance to cause some trouble in Hell, Little Devil is about to let a few more people through the door.
Solo developer Michael “MI Pixel” Armstrong-Ingram is expanding the closed Steam Playtest for his upcoming horror-comedy roguelike on September 10th, giving more players a chance to try it ahead of its planned Q4 2026 release. The Playtest has been running for several months already, with MI Pixel gradually adding more players while using their feedback to make changes throughout development.
You can request access directly through the Little Devil Steam page now. There’s no guarantee everyone will immediately get in, but another wave of invitations will be sent when the Playtest expands on Thursday.
Hell Is Different Every Time You Visit
Little Devil drops you into a broken version of Hell as a small devil with some fairly unstable powers and sends you through procedurally generated dungeons filled with demons, traps, hazards, bosses, and plenty of things that probably shouldn’t be picked up. Naturally, you’re going to pick them up anyway.
Each run lets you combine primary and secondary weapons, collect Boons, and power an active Soul Ability using souls gathered from enemies. Finding another copy of the same Boon makes it stronger, giving you plenty of opportunities to gradually turn a fairly ordinary build into something considerably less reasonable.
Not everything you find is helpful, though. Some pickups are deliberately there to mess with you, while enemies can inflict Curses that either disappear over time or stick around until you manage to find a cure. Permadeath means getting things wrong can bring the entire run to an abrupt end.
The Seven Deadly Sins Are Waiting

Making it through the dungeon eventually means dealing with some familiar names. Every completed run builds toward a fight with Lucifer, but you’ll first need to defeat three randomly selected Deadly Sins. Each comes with its own arena and attacks, while changing which three appear means you won’t necessarily face the same collection of bosses on your next attempt.
Gluttony was one of the first to be completed during development, and the Playtest has already been through some fairly substantial changes. Earlier updates introduced a dedicated starting area called the Vestibule, nine additional weapons, 13 One Hit Wonders, and eight Soul Abilities. Boss AI has also been rewritten, new room shapes and Trial Rooms have been introduced, and feedback from existing testers has led to changes across controls, audio, maps, dialogue, and other parts of the game.
That’s really the point of gradually opening the doors to more people. MI Pixel has been actively changing Little Devil around the feedback coming from its existing testers, and September 10th brings another group into that process.
It Looks Like It Came Straight From the ’90s

All of this is wrapped up in a style heavily inspired by the Sega Mega Drive era, with pixel art, retro sound, grotesque enemies, and enough dark humor to make getting killed slightly less disappointing.
There’s even considerably more Little Devil outside the game. MI Pixel has created a free webcomic set in the same world, which is now more than 120 pages long and continues to receive new pages twice a week. Reading it isn’t required to understand the game, although anyone who does will apparently recognize a few additional jokes when they eventually make the trip to Hell.
Little Devil is currently scheduled to launch on PC via Steam in Q4 2026.
