Every run in UnderMine 2 is built around stacking item interactions until the result becomes absurd: a bomb that fills the screen, a meteor barrage replacing your basic attacks, a skeleton army summoned from a totem. Thorium’s action-adventure roguelike operates in procedurally generated mine floors where players fight enemies in real-time, collect relics and potions, and shape a character build from hundreds of possible items across each attempt.
The game continues directly after the events of the original UnderMine, following Camilla as she works to restore the Goldmine under King Faraam’s suspicious authority. Players rescue characters from the dungeon depths and gradually expose what Faraam is actually doing. This narrative layer sits atop the run structure without requiring familiarity with the first game. Each playable character — including the returning Peasant, the luck-driven Black Rabbit, and the Inquisitor Danté — carries unique abilities and upgrade paths, so switching characters meaningfully changes how items are evaluated and combined.
- Arcana system: interactive relics that replace standard abilities with distinct power sets such as homing bombs or meteor barrages
- Enemy charming: turn hostile creatures into assets by using their own abilities against other enemies
- The Well: an endless post-run challenge mode that tests builds against escalating enemies and bosses
- Full two-player local co-op with synergies exclusive to the paired-character format
- Steam Workshop support backed by in-game modding tools including a visual scripting editor and paintable tilesets
UnderMine 2 entered Early Access on July 22, 2025. Thorium published an Early Access roadmap in August 2025, and the cadence of named updates followed steadily: The Burning Eye Update in September 2025, The Well Update in December 2025 (which introduced the endless challenge mode), Booster Pack #1 also in December, The Roost Update in February 2026, and the Duskfall Update in May 2026. The Lunar Magic Update arrived in June 2026. Each major release was preceded by preview posts and a TestMine beta branch, indicating a deliberate development rhythm.
Players who enjoy building toward mechanically chaotic outcomes — and who want that experience available alongside a second person on the same machine — will find UnderMine 2 particularly well-suited to them.
