Most deckbuilding roguelikes funnel a single character through escalating rooms; Gordian Quest, developed by Mixed Realms Pte Ltd and Swag Soft Holdings Pte Ltd, instead demands that you manage a party of three heroes simultaneously, blending old-school CRPG structure with card-based tactical combat. It released on June 23, 2022 after a period of early access development.

The game is set in the cursed land of Wrendia and offers four distinct modes. Campaign Mode sends a party through four acts, moving from Westmire to the Sky Imperium across a scripted but procedurally textured journey. Realm Mode is the high-pressure roguelite experience: five sequential realms with randomized threats and rewards, extendable into an endless run for players chasing endurance. Adventure Mode opens after the campaign and offers procedurally generated areas alongside solo challenges. A Skirmish Mode lets two players pit their parties against each other in a one-versus-one format.

Ten hero classes are available. Two fill frontline and support roles through faith or martial training, two specialize in ranged attacks and stealthy tricks, two draw on arcane or natural magic, and two pursue performance and dark pacts, while the final pair command constructed soldiers or unarmed discipline. Each class has distinct skills drawn from a combined pool of nearly 800 active and passive abilities. Building a party means thinking about inter-hero synergies; heroes forge bonds that unlock new skills between them, so composition affects not just individual card plays but what the group can discover over a run. Heroes are leveled, trained, and equipped with weapons, armor, and trinkets, and loot including relics accumulates throughout each session. An Artifacts system carries rewards across runs, benefiting future campaigns and Realm Mode attempts alike. Decisions and dice rolls shape routes and events, and permadeath is available as an opt-in hardcore layer rather than a default.

The game’s update history shows sustained development well past launch. A Christmas event arrived in December 2022. Patch 1.2 revisions ran through early 2023, with Patch 1.3 going live in May 2023. Steam Deck compatibility was confirmed in August 2023, and a Nintendo Switch version launched in October 2023. A mobile pre-registration opened for a Chinese-language release around the same period. Development continued into 2025, with Patch 1.4.8 reaching the Bleeding-Edge branch in February of that year.

Players who want the strategic density of Slay the Spire but expect to manage multiple characters with interlocking skill economies rather than a solo climb will find Gordian Quest occupies a meaningfully different space in the genre.
