Decktamer, developed by Horizon Edge and released October 27, 2025, drops players into a giant crater called the Abyss, where they build a deck not by buying or drafting cards but by taming the very creatures trying to kill them.

Combat is turn-based and simultaneous in planning: every card in your party can execute a move each turn, so each decision compounds. Creatures are not generic tools — they carry abilities mutated by the Abyss environment, and a key system lets players strip an ability from one creature and transfer it to another, opening space for combinations that wouldn’t exist in a straight draft roguelike. The catch that gives the game its tension is permanent loss: when a creature card dies, it is gone from the run entirely, making every fight a calculation between aggression and preservation.

The game sits toward the punishing end of the spectrum; the deeper the Abyss, the stranger and more dangerous the creatures, and losing tamed cards permanently means mistakes compound rather than reset.

  • Tame enemies mid-combat to recruit them as cards
  • Per-creature ability transfer system for custom combos
  • Permanent card loss on creature death within a run
  • Turn-based combat where every card acts each turn
  • Escalating enemy difficulty tied to Abyss depth

Post-launch development has been active. In the first weeks after release Horizon Edge added an undo system and ran a community creature contest, eventually adding all three finalist creatures to the game by late November 2025. A second creature contest followed in early 2026. December 2025 brought community-driven translations, and January 2026 added Brazilian Portuguese localization alongside balance changes. March 2026 delivered a dedicated difficulty update, April saw bestiary enhancements tied to a contest winner, and May and June 2026 introduced further new creatures across multiple numbered patches. The save system also received its own focused improvement in June 2026, by which point the game had reached version 1.7.x.
