Chain of Command, a top-down arena shooter roguelike from developer Blinkstrike, is heading to Steam in Q3 2026. The game wedges a classic arcade constraint, the snake-like chain mechanic, into a synergy-driven roguelike where your fighters attack automatically. That core tension between careful maneuvering and party-building strategy is where the appeal lies.
You’ll command up to 15 additional fighters alongside a chosen Commander, each with automatic attacks and learnable spells. The pitch is synergy. You combine duplicate allies to level them up and unlock new abilities, then layer equipment and relics from a pool of over 200 unique items to engineer explosive builds.
Rounds last between 20 and 60 seconds, demanding you survive waves while banking gold to spend at the shop between encounters. The longer you survive, the stronger the next boss becomes, so there’s a real cost to playing it safe.
The snake-like controls recall Snake or Tron, meaning collision with your own chain is a constant hazard. With over 20 Commanders each heavily customizing your playstyle, two spells you can cast manually during fights, and fast runs clocking in around 30 to 45 minutes, the game appears built for replayability.
Blinkstrike has also packed in accessibility toggles, letting players dial the experience toward either chill or punishing difficulty.
A demo is also available now on itch.io. Wishlist it on Steam to get notified when it lauches.
