For the last few weeks, Bearicade has been sitting in Steam’s “Coming Soon” section with nothing more specific than a July 2026 release window. That’s changed this week, with developer Gut Punch Studio confirming the tower defense roguelite will launch on July 20, meaning players only have a couple of days left to wait.
If you’ve missed Bearicade until now, it’s one of the more unusual tower defense games currently heading to Steam. Instead of protecting a castle or defending a futuristic base, you’re trying to keep a teddy bear safe from an invading army of little green plastic soldiers.
Standing between Teddy and total destruction is a wind-up toy train that endlessly circles a loop of track, carrying an ever-growing arsenal of weapons into battle. It’s a fun, playful idea that immediately stands out from the sea of fantasy-themed tower defense games.

Rather than placing stationary defenses and hoping you’ve covered every angle, your train never stops moving. Every carriage you add circles the battlefield, firing as it passes, while the engine itself can become a weapon by increasing its speed and bolting on spikes to smash through enemy lines. It’s a simple concept, but one that completely changes how you think about positioning and upgrades throughout a run.
Between each wave, you’ll spend the gold you’ve earned expanding and improving your train. New carriages increase your firepower, while upgrades to speed, spikes, weapon levels, and even Teddy’s armor all help you survive another night. There are 13 different toy weapons to unlock, including everything from cap guns and squirt guns to mortars, rockets, and gatling guns, with effects such as freeze, burn, knockback, stun, and pierce encouraging different combinations from one run to the next.
The enemies evolve alongside your defenses. What begins with simple marching toy soldiers gradually introduces sprinters, bazooka troops capable of attacking Teddy from range, medics that heal the advancing horde, and heavily armored units that can clog the tracks. Boss encounters arrive every five waves, culminating in a showdown against a toy General commanding a super tank that can bring your train grinding to a halt if you’re not prepared.
Bearicade also rewards efficient play. Finishing a wave without Teddy taking any damage earns a Good Night bonus, giving you a discount before the next upgrade phase, while panic items and charms provide additional ways to rescue a run that’s beginning to fall apart. Once you’ve survived all 30 waves, an endless mode unlocks for anyone curious to see how long their carefully assembled train can keep rolling.
Cute visuals might be the first thing that catches your eye, but there’s a lot more to this refreshingly different release.
