Everything is Crab
Each run in Everything is Crab drops a creature into a living ecosystem and asks it to survive long enough to resist carcinisation — the biological joke at the heart of the game that every organism eventually evolves into a crab. You are the exception trying to prove the rule. From moment to moment, a run involves hunting smaller creatures, fleeing larger ones, scavenging resources, and making evolutionary choices that define both how your creature functions and how it looks. Those choices come from a pool of more than 125 evolution-based abilities, and each selection reshapes the build: a creature might accumulate swarm-leading traits to dominate through numbers, develop predator specialisations for direct combat, or stack mobility evolutions to survive through evasion and positioning rather than confrontation.
The ecosystem itself is active rather than decorative. Other creatures pursue their own survival strategies and move through their own evolutionary stages, spread across four biomes that each carry distinct climate events, flora, fauna, and rules. A day and night cycle shifts conditions within a run, and bosses appear — or do not — on a per-run basis, keeping encounters unpredictable. The genetics system, which covers starting character templates, can be combined to generate varied starting configurations before a run even begins. Players who prove their survival skills unlock Endless runs, which strip out the timer and reframe the challenge as pure outlasting. A Codex tracks discoveries and progression over time. A difficulty system and challenge scenarios extend the ceiling for players who want structured pressure beyond the standard arc. Players who prefer tightly authored narrative or a single dominant optimal strategy will find the open-ended ecosystem survival loop resistant to their instincts.
Everything is Crab was developed by Odd Dreams Digital and released on May 8, 2026. It crossed 100,000 sales within 48 hours and reached 250,000 sales shortly after. A roadmap was published at launch outlining planned additions. A hotfix at version 1.0.1 followed quickly, and in June 2026 the game received its first named update, version 1.1, bringing a substantial content patch on June 25th. Odd Dreams Digital ran community-facing initiatives throughout the launch window, including a player-facing evolution design competition and an AMA in July 2026. Hotfixes 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 followed in July, with the studio also opening community voting on future evolution directions — suggesting the ability pool is still being shaped by player input.
