Juicy Realm
Pick up a weapon drop after clearing a room and you immediately face a choice: swap your current gun for something unfamiliar or press deeper with known firepower, because resources and gear in Juicy Realm do not wait for you to feel ready. Developed by SpaceCan, the game released on May 3, 2018, and casts players as explorers pushing into a world overrun by sentient, ambulatory plants that have violently displaced humanity from the top of the food chain.
Each run moves through randomly generated zones populated by armed and aggressive fruits. Players collect weapons, items, and resources as they advance, feeding both their survival in the current run and the development of a base camp between runs. Combat is action-oriented and twin-stick in feel, demanding positioning and weapon management against enemies that are visually absurd but mechanically aggressive. The art direction leans into vivid, heavily detailed creature design, making the fruit antagonists genuinely distinctive rather than generic placeholder enemies. Local multiplayer lets additional players join the campaign cooperatively, which changes the threat scaling and coordination demands without fundamentally altering the structure.
The game’s post-release history shows a sustained development arc. Within days of launch in May 2018, SpaceCan was already pushing updates, then paused in July 2018 to announce a rewrite. That rewrite produced Juicy Realm 2.0 in January 2019, a substantial overhaul followed immediately by ongoing patches through the first half of that year. By late 2019 the game had added new modes and characters and launched on Nintendo Switch. A major January 2020 update introduced a new stage and character, and June 2020 brought new content, new characters, and crossplay cooperative play across a triple update drop. Patch activity continued into 2022, indicating the game remained supported well beyond its initial release window.
A new player’s first hour involves learning the weapon roster under light early-zone pressure, dying at least once to a boss or elite that hits harder than the opening rooms suggest, and returning to base camp to weigh which upgrades to prioritize before the next attempt.
