Hobo Cat Games, an indie studio, released Motördoom on August 2, 2024, building a game that fuses freestyle extreme sports with horde-shooter mechanics in a way that has no close equivalent in the roguelite space.
Each run takes place in one of five arenas where the player rides a chainsaw-powered pit bike against escalating waves of grotesque monsters. Movement and combat are inseparable: tricks such as flips, grabs, grinds, and manuals generate a combo score, and kills extend and multiply that score further. When the player lands the combo, its total converts directly into experience points, so aggressive, stylish riding is the most efficient path to power rather than an optional flourish.
Levelling up presents a choice of three randomly drawn Demonic Offering cards from a pool of thirty-five. Cards accumulate into a deck over the course of a run, and choosing complementary upgrades drives the build variety. Scrap collected during runs unlocks the game’s seven playable characters permanently; each character carries a distinct weapon and handling profile. Bike Add-Ons, also unlockable, layer additional modifiers onto builds and can include items like a chainsaw attachment that tears through enemies directly. Skins for both riders and bikes are available separately.
The game ships with a Career Mode modelled on classic extreme sports titles, a timed Single Run highscore mode, an Endless Run mode that removes time and level caps, and a Free Ride mode. Difficulty settings span all skill levels. Five bosses appear across the content. Steam Workshop support is available on Windows.
After launch, a Steam Workshop Update arrived in October 2024, followed by a patch in December of that year. The game was verified for Steam Deck in May 2025, and a crossover with another title, FUMES, appeared in September 2025 under the name MotorFOOMES. A Nintendo Switch version launched in November 2025. The one-year anniversary update landed in August 2025, and a Unity engine update addressing a specific security vulnerability was issued in October 2025. The combo-to-XP conversion remains the mechanic that most directly rewards players willing to juggle trick execution and enemy targeting simultaneously.
