Deformed
You’ve been abducted and taken to an underground facility where doctors run disturbing genetic modification experiments on people. Something has gone wrong, the monsters are loose, and for the first time since you were dragged in, there’s a chance to escape.
Deformed is a single-player horror shooter from Deformed Studios, set in a sprawling underground lab and played in either first or third person. Fighting off the monsters the facility has created with guns, upgrading your skills with XP earned from kills and side quests, and uncovering more about the lab and its creatures the further you get, you’ll find out whether you have what it takes to escape.

Shoot First, Run When You Have To
Combat in Deformed is built around fighting different monsters with guns, and by its own description, it involves lots of running away and shooting. That mix of aggression and retreat keeps the pace tense, since facing down the lab’s creations head-on rarely works without a plan, and knowing when to back off is as important as knowing when to fire. Being able to switch between first and third person adds some flexibility to how the lab is explored, letting players pick whichever perspective suits the situation or simply feels more comfortable.
A Lab Full of Secrets
Away from the shooting, Deformed rewards curiosity. Side quests offer a way to earn extra XP, and spending that XP on skill upgrades gradually builds out a more capable character, while the deeper you push into the facility, the more you uncover about what the doctors were doing and what became of their experiments. The game leans into a very over-the-top comedic tone, with plenty of gore, which gives it a darkly funny edge compared to more straight-faced survival horror, though it’s also warned that some players may find it disturbing.
How Long Does a Run Take?
An individual successful run takes approximately 1 hour. Because the game is structurally built as a boss rush, individual play sessions are quite short and concise compared to other major titles in the genre, though the exact duration depends entirely on progress. Failed attempts in the initial phases naturally cut a session down to just a few minutes, while surviving, clearing side objectives, upgrading skills, and beating the bosses to escape the lab finishes right around the 1 hour mark.
Controller Support
Deformed features Full Controller Support for Xbox Controllers.
Good If You Like…
If you enjoyed Golden Light, Witchfire, or SULFUR, Deformed’s mix of first-person horror shooting and roguelite permadeath should be well worth a look.
