Cthulhu’s Reach: Devil Reef
The year is 1923, and you owe a gangster more than you can pay. A tip-off points toward the cursed seaside town of Innsmouth and the sunken labyrinth known as Devil Reef, where treasure waits alongside things no sane mind was ever meant to see.
Cthulhu’s Reach: Devil Reef is a Lovecraftian co-op roguelite from developer The Fine Arc, built for 1 to 4 players. Descending into procedurally generated labyrinths with a crew of desperate fortune-hunters, you’ll fight through eldritch horrors, collect powerful items, and bargain away your sanity for incantations that grant power at a genuine cost.
What Makes It Different?
- Descend into procedurally generated labyrinths that never play the same way twice
- Team up with up to 3 friends in full online co-op with dungeon scaling
- Trade sanity for power through incantations offered by the Great Old Ones
- Face self-inflicted curses once sanity drops too low, with no skipping or rerolling
- Collect over 100 items across four rarity tiers to shape your build
- Battle enemies with dynamic status effects like bleeding, burning, and panic
- Compete daily in a globally seeded Daily Challenge dungeon
Power Always Costs Something
The Sanity System sits at the heart of every descent into Devil Reef. Incantations offer real power, but only in exchange for a piece of your mind, and losing too much sanity means your own descent starts writing curses into the run. Facing one of these curses is mandatory, with no way to skip or reroll, and surviving it earns a permanent reward. Staying sane keeps that threat to a minimum, but fall far enough into madness, and there’s no choice left to make at all.
No Two Descents Play Out the Same
With fully procedurally generated dungeons, over 100 collectible items spread across four rarity tiers, and an enemy system built around stacking status effects, every trip beneath Devil Reef throws something different at the crew. Whether descending alone or with a full party of four, dungeon scaling keeps the challenge appropriate to the group size, and the Daily Challenge mode adds a globally seeded dungeon for players looking to compare runs against delvers around the world.
How Long Does a Run Take?
Average total playtime sits around 1.2 to 1.7 hours per player on record, with a single full clear typically taking around 50 minutes and median playtime landing near 1.4 hours. Because dungeon layouts are randomly generated, individual runs vary in length, with quick deaths early on shortening sessions and successful multi-level deep dives pushing toward the one-hour mark.
Controller Support
Cthulhu’s Reach: Devil Reef features Full Controller Support for Xbox Controllers.
Good If You Like…
If you enjoyed Curse of the Dead Gods, Darkwood, or Children of Morta, Cthulhu’s Reach: Devil Reef’s mix of Lovecraftian dread and co-op dungeon crawling should be well worth diving into. Its sanity-driven curse system gives it a genuinely tense twist on the usual roguelite formula.
