Your Defenses Are Only as Strong as Their Weakest Connection in Newly Launched HEXSTORM: Tears of Arcadia

Tower defense games usually give you a path, handful of obvious building spots, and enough time to convince yourself that everything is under control. HEXSTORM: Tears of Arcadia is far less accommodating. Enemies can arrive from any direction, your entire defense depends on an interconnected power network, and one poorly placed structure can leave a sizeable chunk of your flying fortress completely useless.

Developed and published by solo creator Tearevo, HEXSTORM: Tears of Arcadia launches on Steam today. Its tactical tower defense battles are built around the Arcadia, a flying fortress that serves as your base, your most important asset, and the center of every decision you make.

Every Structure Is Part of Something Bigger

Rather than scattering isolated towers around the battlefield, you’ll construct a unified network of collectors, weapons, and support modules around the Arcadia.

Collectors extend the territory available to you, extract resources, and keep the network powered. Turrets protect exposed directions, while support modules strengthen nearby defenses and introduce new tactical options. That makes expansion useful, but never completely safe. Stretch too far in search of additional resources and you may create a vulnerable section that becomes difficult to protect once the next attack begins.

Every new structure therefore needs to earn its place. Spending heavily on your economy may leave you short on immediate firepower, but panicking and pouring everything into weapons can make it harder to keep pace later. HEXSTORM keeps those two needs pulling against each other, ensuring you’re rarely building without also wondering what you’ve left exposed.

The Battlefield Refuses to Sit Still

HEXSTORM divides its campaign between ground and aerial missions, each changing the way you defend the Arcadia.

Ground missions bring the ship to a stop, allowing you to establish defenses around it while fighting for control of crystal deposits. Aerial missions keep the fortress moving as the world scrolls beneath it, forcing you to react to passing resources, enemy missile batteries, and depot containers capable of reshaping your current setup.

Both mission types revolve around protecting the same ship, but they don’t leave you solving the same problem repeatedly. A carefully planned network makes sense when the battlefield is stationary. It becomes much harder to maintain when useful resources are disappearing off-screen and fresh threats are arriving from beyond your existing defenses.

Build Around What the Run Gives You

The roguelite structure becomes more noticeable during aerial missions, where depot bonuses offer a selection of temporary upgrades. These can support defenses built around lightning, repairs, shields, increased turret speed, drones, or attacks aimed at high-priority targets. Some provide an immediate advantage, while others become more influential as they stack throughout the mission.

Those bonuses give you room to pursue powerful combinations, but HEXSTORM: Tears of Arcadia doesn’t promise that your favorite strategy will appear every time. You’ll need to work with the options available, adjusting your defenses around the tools you actually receive rather than the ones you hoped would turn up.

Progress also continues between missions. Resources earned after battle can improve the Arcadia’s hull, generators, starting supplies, turret power, and drone systems, gradually preparing the damaged ship for increasingly dangerous operations.

Arcadia Takes Flight Today

HEXSTORM: Tears of Arcadia launches with a story campaign that gradually introduces new structures, systems, and mechanics as you travel through Khoral and uncover the mystery surrounding Arcadia’s fallen captain. There’s also a challenge mode with endless waves for anyone more interested in discovering how long a particularly strong setup can survive.

Its interconnected defenses are what set it apart. Every turret, collector, and support module feeds into a larger machine, but that machine can unravel quickly when the wrong section loses power.

If you enjoy tower defense games that keep you actively reading the battlefield rather than waiting for enemies to follow a convenient route, HEXSTORM: Tears of Arcadia is preparing to leave the ground tonight.
