Wave Games’ Chasing the Dawn Turns Roguelite Probability Into Strategy

Chasing the Dawn, a hand-painted pixel-art roguelite from Wave Games, asks players to manage luck as deliberately as they manage resources. According to the developers, the game treats probability itself as something that can be shaped through wit and careful decision-making, turning what might feel random into a series of calculated risks.

You descend into a dungeon, gather allies and runes, and return to rebuild Dawnville with the resources you’ve collected. Five expedition members with unique abilities unlock as you progress, each requiring different strategic approaches to the same dangers.

The studio says that players will encounter seven differently styled maps, nearly a hundred enemy and trap types, and dozens of random events where opportunity and peril coexist. Rune combinations boost combat power during runs, and items can be used to manage the hazards ahead.

Progression feeds back into preparation. The village rebuild system isn’t merely a wrapper for unlocking content. It provides tangible support for deeper dungeon pushes, and higher difficulties introduce empowered enemies and new events that scale with your growing power.

The studio has flagged that more challenges and content will be added in future updates. If you’re drawn to strategy games that treat chance as a system to exploit rather than accept, Chasing the Dawn, set to release on July 14th is worth a look.
