There’s something wonderfully ridiculous about solving a mutant vegetable apocalypse with a hard rock band made entirely of cacti. Somehow, Vegelypse makes it work.
The upcoming 2.5D beat ’em up has shared its first developer log, offering a closer look at a hand-painted adventure where fruits and vegetables have gone spectacularly wrong. After a mysterious explosion transforms everyday produce into aggressive monsters, it’s up to the Hard Rock Cacti Band to smash, chop, and shred their way through wave after wave of leafy enemies.
The Saturday morning cartoon vibes are impossible to ignore. Every character is brought to life with hand-painted, frame-by-frame animation, while an energetic hard rock soundtrack keeps the action moving as you battle from quiet countryside fields all the way to the burning heart of the city.
Beneath all that personality sits a roguelite foundation. Random modifiers, unlockable perks, and a character evolution system promise to keep each run feeling fresh, while support for up to four-player co-op means you won’t have to tackle the vegetable uprising alone. Story Mode tells the tale of the apocalypse, Arcade Mode focuses on high scores, and Arena Mode throws down extra challenges for anyone looking to test their skills.
It’s still early days, but if the first developer log is anything to go by, Vegelypse isn’t short on ideas, or vegetables with anger management issues. Sometimes the best roguelites are the ones that make you stop and ask, “Who came up with this?” and that’s exactly the vibe Vegelypse is giving off and we’re totally here for it.
