Vampire Survivors has trained players to keep their eyes on the ever-growing sea of monsters. Unfortunately, that means plenty of innocent candles and lanterns have been left standing, and now one developer has decided enough is enough.
In a tongue-in-cheek post on X, a member of the Vampire Survivors team jokingly claimed to be the person responsible for placing all of the game’s breakable light sources, and pleaded with players to start smashing them.
It’s exactly the kind of absurd humor the game’s fans have come to expect, but it also shines a light on a feature many players overlook. Those candles, braziers, and other breakable objects scattered throughout each stage aren’t just there for decoration. Destroying them can reward players with gold, floor chicken to restore health, and the occasional helpful pickup that might be exactly what you need when the screen is filling with monsters.
Of course, that’s easier said than done. When hundreds of enemies are closing in and your build is firing projectiles in every direction, stopping to smash a light source isn’t always at the top of the priority list. Veteran players often become so focused on routing, experience gems, and surviving the next wave that the scenery barely gets a second glance.
Whether you’ve been intentionally ignoring them or simply never noticed they were worth breaking, the developer’s playful plea has at least achieved one thing. The next time you spot a lonely candle sitting at the edge of the map, you’ll probably think twice before walking past it. After all, somewhere out there is a very hungry imaginary light-source developer counting on you.
