Solo developer Shadowmoon Wolf Game Tech just posted some information about their latest overhaul from their autobattler and it’s leaning towards roguelite territory. Archer, the mind behind Swords And Magic: Path Of Conquest, just pushed a full core systems redesign that reshapes the entire game around an unlikely hybrid: World of Warcraft’s sprawling fantasy DNA spliced with Mount & Blade’s tactical scale, all wrapped in the dungeon-grinding framework of a roguelite.
That’s an ambitious pitch. The new version represents what Archer originally envisioned for the project, cobbled together into a playable state that you can pickup on Steam right now for about 10 dollars US. The current build centers on large-scale combat encounters paired with a roguelite dungeon progression loop, which suggests the developer understands that neither inspiration actually conflicts with the other.
Archer took to reddit to explain his latest update, touting a “new beginning”, stating a commitment to shipping new regions and faction warfare systems in the coming months. While that is a hefty set of promises, it’s always good to keep this in perspective. This is a solo developer, attempting to manage a major tonal shift, while attempting to deliver on big ticket items like faction warfare and roguelite dungeons. This is far from a promise that is guaranteed to be kept, but if you’re willing to put a little faith in an indie dev with a dream, the cost of entry isn’t that high.
