Rocket Cat Games Teases Quake References for Space Dingus Launch

Rocket Cat Games outlined plans to pack Space Dingus with subtle and non-subtle Quake references as the co-op horror road trip approaches launch, according to a post from the studio on X. The message tagged John Romero, hinting that true fans of the legendary designer will catch the nods buried throughout the game’s sci-fi setting.

Space Dingus is a randomized co-op adventure built for extreme replay value. According to the Steam store listing, you and up to three other players manage a barely-functional spaceship, lead a crew of jerks and drifters, and hunt for a critical missing part across a dangerous galaxy. Every run changes including locations, events, loot, enemies, and encounters that shift with each attempt, with rare special events potentially surprising players even after dozens of hours.

The game comes from the team behind Death Road to Canada, and the design philosophy carries over. Ship customization lets you build new rooms and upgrade functions. You recruit crew members using a character creator, assign them roles, equip them, and choose whether they get the safe or dangerous tasks. Moral and diplomatic choices matter, with consequences shaped by crew traits and personalities. And yes, you can get into petty arguments with friends via in-game chat during your four-player runs.

If you’re a fan of roguelike structure mixed with darkly comedic sci-fi horror and the design sensibilities of genre veterans, you may want to keep an eye on this.
