Hell Clock Just Got Even Bigger With Its First Expansion

Hell Clock was already one of last year’s biggest surprises. If you enjoy carving through hordes of enemies, collecting mountains of loot, and watching an already ridiculous build somehow become even more ridiculous, there’s a good chance it already earned a place in your Steam library. Now it’s giving players another reason to jump back in.

Developer Rogue Snail has released Cursed War, the game’s first major expansion, adding a brand-new story chapter that continues Pajeú’s journey through the brutal backdrop of the Paraguayan War. Alongside the new campaign come more than ten additional areas, fresh enemy encounters, powerful new bosses, six new skills, and a collection of relics and equipment designed to shake up existing builds.

More Than Just New Content

The new abilities look particularly exciting. Lightning strikes, fire-based attacks, and a collection of fresh weapons all promise to open up entirely new ways to build your character, giving returning players plenty of reasons to experiment beyond the setups they’ve already mastered. That’s before you even factor in the new relics, enemies, and bosses waiting throughout the expansion.

For anyone who thought they’d already seen everything Hell Clock had to offer, Endless Nightmares and the full Ascension system should provide a serious new challenge. Together, they add another layer of long-term progression, encouraging players to push their builds further while testing them against increasingly difficult encounters.

Even if you’re not planning to pick up Cursed War straight away, this is still a good time to revisit the game. Rogue Snail has released a substantial free update alongside the expansion, introducing quality-of-life improvements, balance changes, and a range of refinements to the core experience. Existing players will benefit from those updates regardless of whether they own the DLC.

Since launching on Steam, Hell Clock has earned a reputation as one of the standout action roguelites of recent years, combining Diablo-inspired loot hunting with satisfying build crafting and relentless combat. Cursed War doesn’t try to reinvent what already works. Instead, it builds confidently on those foundations, giving returning players exactly what a first expansion should such as more ways to play, tougher challenges to overcome, and another excuse to see just how powerful a build they can create.
