Every hand in VELATO puts two decisions in front of you at once: whether the poker hand you have is good enough to win, and whether you can convince the opponent sitting across from you that it is, regardless of what you are actually holding. The bluff is not a side mechanic but the central one, and every bet in the bluffing stage is a commitment that can drain or build the gold reserve you depend on for the next table.

Developed and published by VELATO, the game is a poker-based deckbuilder in which players climb through floors composed of three escalating tables each. The first table in each floor is a lower-stakes warm-up at fifty gold per table; the second raises the ceiling and the pressure. Across the full run, twenty-four bosses appear in sequence, each with distinct defensive abilities that punish mismatched decks. Because each boss behaves differently and remembers patterns in how you play, the deck you build must be calibrated to the opponents ahead, not just the hand you hold right now. A pool of one hundred and twenty-four Jokers can be purchased from a store unlocked after beating a boss, and choosing the wrong Jokers for the upcoming table actively costs you scoring potential, so every purchase requires calculating what the next enemy will demand before committing gold.

At the bluffing stage itself, players choose between a Challenge button and a Skip, wagering gold to pressure the opponent or preserving it for future tables. Going all-in maximises the bluff but leaves nothing as a cushion. The tension the game builds around this moment — normally a social phenomenon in live multiplayer poker — is the product of opponent AI that tracks your history and decides whether to call you out based on it.

VELATO’s public arc began with a playtest in May 2026, followed by a demo released through Steam’s Deckbuilders Fest 2026 in the same period. The game entered Early Access on July 6, 2026, with update 0.1 launching immediately. Player-versus-player Battle Mode and a multiplayer Hell Mode are on the roadmap but were not present at Early Access launch, which currently offers Single mode play against the boss roster. A new player’s first hour is spent learning the Joker store economy across the small tables, feeling out which combinations hold up when a boss begins reading the patterns back.
