Broccoli Games, an indie studio, released Coffee Caravan on May 20, 2024 — a roguelite cafe management game built around a procedurally generated road trip in which each run produces a different sequence of stops, customers, and choices.
Each run is structured as a series of daily shifts. Before opening, the player selects which recipes to offer from an expanding tree of coffee, tea, and ice cream preparations — each requiring its own combination of ingredients, equipment, and technique. The selection is not cosmetic: premium recipes yield more money per order but slow service, while simpler offerings let the player handle more customers before the run ends. A customer’s patience meter depletes while they wait, and when too many leave dissatisfied the run concludes.
Equipment sits at the center of the progression system. Earnings from each shift can be reinvested in appliances — espresso machines, pour-over setups, matcha tools, bubble tea machines, ice cream machines, and baking equipment — which unlock additional brewing methods and push recipe quality upward. The player is always balancing throughput against complexity: more advanced gear opens better recipes but demands more attention during service.
The three product categories each have distinct mechanical demands. Coffee recipes hinge on espresso technique and ingredient ratios. Tea preparation differentiates between steeping methods and specialty drinks like bubble tea. The ice cream side adds baking (cookies for sandwiches) and freezing consistency as variables, and includes combinations like affogato that bridge the coffee and ice cream trees.
Coffee Caravan shipped in May 2024 and received a bugfix patch almost immediately. A difficulty update the same month added two explicit difficulty modes. By August 2024 a macOS build was available, and September brought Steam Deck verification. The Ice Cream World expansion, the largest content addition to date, arrived in November 2024, introducing new recipes, customers, and appliances. December 2024 added Traditional Chinese localization. January 2025 brought Twitch and Crowd Control integration for streamers. Weekly challenges launched in May 2025 alongside the game’s first anniversary, with pause and restart controls added to that mode in June 2025. The November 2025 update, versioned 1.4.0.5, was described as preparation for future changes.
Runs end when customer dissatisfaction accumulates past recovery, making the patience meter the concrete pressure every session is measured against.
