Fish Slayer Throws Players Into A Relentless Fight For Survival

Ninety seconds isn’t a long time to find your next meal. It’s even less time when everything around you is hungry too.

That’s the challenge at the centre of Fish Slayer, an upcoming roguelite that drops players into dangerous waters where survival depends on eating enough fish before becoming food yourself. Every run is built around short, frantic 90-second hunting sessions that reward quick decisions and efficient movement rather than long-term planning.

The idea sounds simple enough. Find food, stay alive, try again. As with most roguelites, things quickly become more complicated.

Each successful run unlocks new opportunities through permanent upgrades, weapons, and hundreds of available items that can dramatically alter how a character approaches the next attempt. Over time, players build stronger hunters capable of surviving longer, moving faster, and dealing with increasingly dangerous threats lurking beneath the surface.

What makes Fish Slayer interesting is how tightly everything revolves around a single goal. Every fish caught extends the run. Every missed opportunity brings players closer to failure. The constant need to feed creates a different kind of pressure from the health bars, timers, and boss fights that typically drive progression in the genre.

The game also features multiple modes and a growing roster of animal characters, each bringing their own strengths and weaknesses into the struggle for survival. Combined with the progression systems and large pool of available items, there’s plenty of room for experimentation between runs.

The game’s Steam Next Fest demo is available now for players curious to see how long they can stay on the right side of it.
