All three adventure modules for Darkest Dungeon II‘s new Kingdoms game mode are now live. The mode represents a complete departure from the core Confessions experience, offering a standalone strategic campaign where players defend a crumbling realm against fresh enemy factions rather than descend into darkened dungeons.
Kingdoms arrives in thematic chunks. “Hunger of the Beast Clan,” “Secrets of the Coven,” and “Curse of the Court” are all available now on the Steam store listing, each introducing a different threat to manage. The mode tasks you with maintaining a persistent roster of heroes, gathering resources, and pursuing an epic questline to locate and defeat the source of evil. Progress in Kingdoms tracks separately from Confessions, and you can switch freely between active sessions of either mode.
The official site also revealed that the studio is showcasing community-made mods and new heroes, with all selections driven by player suggestions. The recent announcement on Bluesky invited players to nominate mods they’d like featured next.
The broader Darkest Dungeon II experience remains grounded in turn-based combat refined through a new Token System, affinity mechanics between heroes, and the Altar of Hope, a massive upgrade structure that reshapes strategy across runs. Each expedition can last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, with even failed runs yielding resources for the next journey. Kingdoms and Confessions coexist as separate strategic paths into the same decaying landscape.
