There are plenty of features developers love to highlight when showing off a new roguelite. New weapons, new bosses, new progression systems.
BPM Bitcrushed has chosen something everyone wants. You can pet the BOYD!

The team behind BPM: Bullets Per Minute recently revealed on social media that players will be able to interact with a pettable companion known as the BOYD in the upcoming pixel-art sequel. Naturally, this immediately raises an important question: how many times can we pet it?
For those unfamiliar with the game, BPM Bitcrushed isn’t exactly a relaxing experience. The top-down rhythm shooter throws players into procedurally generated dungeons where every action must stay in sync with the music. Shooting, dodging, jumping, and surviving all happen to the beat, while enemies attack in rhythm alongside the soundtrack.
Miss the beat and things can go wrong very quickly.
That’s partly why the BOYD stands out. Amid all the frantic gunfire and pulse-pounding combat, it offers a small reminder that not everything in a roguelite needs to be trying to kill you.
Beyond its newly revealed companion, BPM Bitcrushed is shaping up to be an ambitious follow-up to the original game. The Steam page promises procedurally generated dungeons, permanent progression through a hub known as The Sanctum, and support for custom song imports that allow players to bring their own music into the action.
Whether the BOYD provides gameplay benefits or simply exists to boost morale remains a mystery. Honestly, either answer is acceptable. After all, some features need extensive explanations. Others can be summed up in three words… You can pet it!
