Ammossum Is Locked, Loaded, and Ready to Roll With One Very Armed Opossum

A plague is spreading, infected beasts are swarming the railroads, and your family has been taken. Oh, and you’re an opossum with a gun.

Ammossum launches today on Steam from West Glade and Yahaha Games, sending its heavily armed hero across a broken Wild West where keeping the train moving is just as important as keeping yourself alive. It starts off looking like a third-person action roguelike with plenty of shooting. Then you start putting projectiles inside other projectiles and bolting weaponized railcars onto your train.

Your Gun Can Always Get More Ridiculous

Weapons sit right at the center of Ammossum, but simply finding a better one isn’t point. Projectiles can be combined, nested inside each other, and evolved into increasingly wild attacks. One shot can trigger another, effects can pile together, and a weapon that started out fairly normal can eventually fill the battlefield with bullets, explosions, and acid.

Exactly what you end up with depends on what you find and how you decide to use it, leaving plenty of room for a promising build to turn into something completely outrageous. New weapons and items unlock as you play too, so there are more combinations to mess around with as you keep heading back out.

Your Train Is Part of the Build

The train isn’t just there to carry you between fights either. Railcars bring their own bonuses and can change how a run develops. Some help build your economy by providing useful items or rewards after battles, while others bring their own weapons and become part of the firepower.

West Glade has spent the run-up to release expanding that side of the game, including 10 different economic railcars and a collection of battle cars built around different projectile shapes. Then there’s the route itself.

Nine different station types can appear, ranging from armories and ammo depots to trading posts and training camps. When the train pulls in, you choose where to head next based on what your current build needs. Sometimes that’ll be another weapon, and other times you’ll desperately need resources.

There’s a Reason You’re Riding the Rails

Under all the exploding projectiles and armed railcars, there is an actual reason for the journey. Your family has been taken, the world is falling apart, and infected creatures are spreading along the railroads. Moving forward means fighting through new biomes, surviving enemy waves, taking on bosses, and following the tracks toward the source of the plague.

Different heroes bring their own stats and progression options into the mix too, giving you another way to change how a run comes together. If the normal journey isn’t enough, there’s an Endless Mode waiting that gets progressively harder as you progress.

Keep the Train Moving

Ammossum has been through years of development, playtests, demo updates, and a Steam Next Fest appearance on the way here. Along the way, West Glade has added more weapons, railcars, characters, enemies, bosses, and biomes while reworking several of the systems players tested earlier in development.

Now, you get the chance to experience this crazy, fun game in all of its glory. Just remember to keep the train moving.
