After 10 Months in Development, Void Descent Launches 1.0 With Full 3D Overhaul

The developer behind the browser-based roguelite Void Descent has released version 1.0 on Itch, marking the game’s official launch after a 10-month development cycle. The update brings a complete visual redesign alongside several quality-of-life improvements aimed at broadening the game’s accessibility across platforms and hardware.

The headline addition is a full 3D graphics overhaul. Every player ship, enemy, weapon, and visual effect has been rebuilt for high-fidelity 3D rendering, though the developer has preserved the original 2D aesthetic as an option for mobile players or anyone preferring the retro style.

Alongside the visual refresh, a new real-time combat rank system now grades your positioning and aggression as you play. The cleaner and more precise your fights, the higher your score multiplies. Take damage or play too cautiously, and your rank suffers accordingly. It seems like a system designed to reward aggressive optimization rather than mere survival.

The PC experience received significant attention too. Widescreen support is now fully integrated, and the game includes native controller support, tested and working on the ROG Ally. The developer notes they lack access to a Steam Deck, so feedback from that platform would be welcome. You can check the full release notes for more specifics on what changed.

The stated goal was to create a game requiring zero installs that runs on any device with any hardware. Whether 1.0 achieves that vision completely will likely depend on how the game performs across the range of browsers and systems players actually test it on.
